Fire destroys shed on Sheller Road
Yakima County Fire District #5 firefighters spent two hours
extinguishing a shed fire that caused $5,000 worth of damage to the building
and contents this past Monday.
District #5 was called out to a residence at 4200 Sheller
Road at 3:26 a.m.
"We found a shed next to the house fully involved. We
protected the house until people
arrived," said Lt. Antonio Castillo.
"A tree caught fire, so we had to cut the tree down. We
were on scene for about four and a half hours," he added.
Twenty firefighters from two Yakima County Fire District #5

The fire is being investigated by the fire marshal for the
county.
House fire causes $100,000 damage
Three fire stations, including the Sunnyside Fire
Department, responded to a house fire in the 400 block of West Woodin Road at
12:32 a.m. this past Monday.
Damage was estimated at $100,000, according to Lt. Antonio
Castillo of Yakima County Fire District #5.
"The property owner believes that, while a neighbor and
his children were over and while he was talking to the father, the children
were playing with fireworks. They left and about 15 minutes later he saw the
fire on his roof. He tried to put it out with a hose, but could not and called
the fire department," said Castillo.
Firefighters knocked the fire down in an hour. Thirty
firefighters responded to the emergency.
Castillo said investigation of the fire has been forwarded
to the Yakima County Fire Marshal.
