Foreclosures were sent out recently to property owners who still have not paid their 2010 SVID irrigation assessment.
That's according to Lori Brady, an assistant manager who oversees SVID's administration activities. She said 261 letters were sent out, down from 345 sent out a year ago.
Brady said the letters are just the first step in the foreclosure process and that those behind on their assessments still have time to get caught up.
For example, in 2012 only 21 of the 345 properties ended up going to a foreclosure auction because land owners made good on the unpaid assessments.
Overall, SVID anticipates receiving $8.7 million in assessment fees on 92,000 acres in its coverage area in 2013.
