The Yakima County Sheriff's office fielded five reports of gunfire from the Lower Valley since this past Friday.
A Grandview-area woman was injured in one of the shootings, when someone shot at a house at 371 Woodworth Road early this morning, Monday.
The woman was shot in the head when 15 shots were fired at the house. The woman and the other occupants of the home were asleep at the time of the attack. On Saturday, the same neighborhood was also hit with bullets, when a nearby resident reported hearing two shots fired.
Yesterday, Sunday, an Outlook residence at 1991 Gap Road was also hit when a man said he woke up to the sound of gunfire. The home's kitchen reportedly has several large holes in it from the blasts.
Also yesterday, another Outlook home at 1961 Gap Road was hit with gunfire, with one of the bullets lodging in the wall of a bedroom.
In yet another report from Outlook on Saturday, a B Street resident said he heard six shots fired near Yakima Valley Highway.
In addition to gunfire over the weekend, deputies were dispatched to what could have been an even more dramatic situation in the 7000 block of Van Belle Road. That's where the Sheriff's office says two crates of explosives were found containing mortars and howitzers.
The Sheriff's office was also alerted to a number of thefts since Friday, including a purse that was stolen near Grandview in the 1100 block of Highland Road.
A 1996 Ford Ranger was also stolen near Sunnyside from the 1700 block of Holaday Road
Near Grandview yesterday, deputies were unsuccessful in getting a K-9 unit to respond to an attempted break-in in the 1500 block of Apricot Road. The resident said she saw someone trying to open her back door and actually saw a hand come through the door.
The Sheriff's office contacted Prosser about bringing a tracking dog, but police there said the situation was unwarranted to call out the unit.
