August temperatures colder than normal in Sunnyside area, more of the same forecast for rest of the month of September

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather station in Pendleton, Ore. last month recorded lower than normal temperatures in Sunnyside.

The average temperature for August in the Sunnyside area was 67.9 degrees, 4.1 degrees below normal. The average high temperature in Sunnyside was 84.5 degrees. Normally the high temperatures are 4.5 degrees higher.

Aug. 17, the highest temperature of the month was recorded at 95 degrees, the lowest temperature was 42 degrees on Aug. 23.

The average night time low temperatures for Sunnyside during the month of August were 51.2 degrees.

There were seven days in August of this year in which temperatures were in excess of 90 degrees here in Sunnyside.

Precipitation, too, was less than normal during the month of August. Normal average precipitation levels are .2 inches, but last month Sunnyside only recorded .1 inches. That precipitation was recorded on one day.

The September outlook for Sunnyside, according to NOAA, calls for below normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. The normal highs during September are 79.8 degrees and lows are normally 47.2 degrees. Precipitation is .49 inches during the month of September, based on 30 years of recordings.
