G'view police field 41 calls involving fireworks on July 4th

GRANDVIEW - The Grandview Police Department responded to 41 complaints related to fireworks between 8:21 a.m. yesterday and 1:01 a.m. today.
They follow on the heels of 27 fireworks-related calls made to police last weekend.
Eleven of the 41 calls occurred between 8 a.m. yesterday and midnight, the time frame allotted by Grandview's fireworks ordinance.
"About half of the complaints on July 4 were for illegal fireworks," said Cal Fuller, a sergeant with the Grandview Police Department. He said the remainder were fireworks set off in public parks or in a dangerous way. "We had reports of some landing in a neighbor's yard," Fuller said.
He said the total of 68 fireworks calls received from last weekend through this morning represent a "typical number" for Grandview.
"Actually, the number of fireworks calls on the Fourth were less than normal," Fuller said. "I think the reason for that was that the Fourth was on a Tuesday. The crowds were smaller than if the Fourth was on a weekend or a Monday."
Of the 81 calls Grandview police received between Monday morning and this morning, one was the reported theft of a swimming pool in the 500 block of East Second Street. The pool, valued at $150, was in a box at the time of the alleged theft.
