It's that time of year again when we will begin learning about the candidates vying for the Miss Sunnyside title.
Each young lady always brings to the table something unique and interesting.
It's an opportunity to learn about the teenagers who are willing to become leaders, who want to do something that benefits the community.
Sunnyside has many teens like these girls who step out on a limb, choosing to expose themselves to the community in an effort to serve as an ambassador.
The halls of Sunnyside's schools are filled with youngsters who are unique, talented and exhibit leadership skills throughout the school year.
I am always impressed with the candidates for Miss Sunnyside. They are willing to talk about their hopes for the future and their willingness to show others that Sunnyside is a great place to live.
They often see the glass as half full when others see the opposite.
I get to learn about what truly inspirational individuals they are, wanting to help with the young and the old.
Candidates in the past have had a desire to enter the medical field, the field of sciences and everything in between. They wanted to make the world a better place.
The community service projects are sometimes focused on being role models for young children. Other times, candidates have wanted to serve the elders in the community, inspiring hope.
Every candidate I have met through the years is an example of hope for the future as well as the present.
So, I hope the community will join me and take a few minutes out of life each Friday, beginning this coming Friday, to read about these young ladies and their dream of being named 2013-14 Miss Sunnyside.
