Bickleton boys repeat as 1B league champions

GLENWOOD - The Bickleton High School boys track team scored 198 points at the 1B league meet held in Glenwood this past Friday. The score was good enough to beat Troutlake/Glenwood, Klickitat and Yakama Tribal and repeat as the Columbia Gorge Champions.

The top four finishers in each event also qualified for this coming Friday's District Championship event at Kittitas.

The Bickleton boys swept the high jump event with Henrik Heldahl, Taylor Brown, Mitchell Powers and Junior Hernandez finishing in the top four spots, respectively. Because there were unfulfilled spots from the Northern teams in the event, Bickleton's Daniel Clingan and Justin Roberts will also be attending Districts. They finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Edgar Molina qualified for several events at Districts last Friday. He won the shot put and discus events.

Teammate Nic Venema also placed well for the Pirates. He won the 300m hurdles with a personal best time of 44.84. He will be the top seed at Friday's event in Kittitas. Venema was also second in the 100m event and second in the pole vault.

Because not enough slots were filled by the Northern teams in the pole vault, Bickleton's Justin Roberts (sixth) and Peter Clinton (sixth) also qualified for Districts in the event.

Other Bickleton boys placing second in events and qualifying for Districts were Heldahl (200m), Roberts (400m), Clingan (1600m), Hernandez (3200m), Taylor Brown (110m) and Powers (triple jump). The 4x400 relay team of Clinton, Hernandez, Heldahl and Molina also qualified for Districts with a second place finish.

Third place finishers included Clinton (100m), Christian Mittring (400m) and Joshua Cummings (3200m, triple jump).

Fourth place finishers from Bickleton that will be competing at Districts are Brown (200m), Clingan (3200m) and Powers (300m hurdles).

The Lady Pirates also had several players qualify for this Friday's District tournament.

Finishing in second were Katelynn Clinton (300m hurdles and the high jump), Jenna Mount (200m) and Holly Goodnight (discus).

Clinton, Johanna Jensen, Mount and Goodnight also teamed up to place second in the 4x100 relay. Jensen, Goodnight, Yan Dong and Mount teamed up to place second in the 4x200 relay and Dong, Amanda McBride, Jensen and Christina Wilson placed second in the 4x400 relay.

Dong (100m) and Clinton (discus) placed third and will compete at Districts in their events.
