WALLA WALLA - Justin Bos, the assistant PGA club pro at Sunnyside's Black Rock Creek Golf Course, notched a 46th place finish from a 120-golfer field at last week's Pacific Northwest PGA Open.
The three-day tourney at Walla Walla's Wine Valley Golf Course, a links-style layout, was open to PGA professionals and apprentices, as well as a handful of select amateurs.
Bos opened with an even-par 72 (37-35), slipping one stroke to a 1-over 73 (37-36) the second day. His two-day total of 145 was five shots under the cut line, which easily advanced him to Wednesday's trophy round.
In the finals, Bos finished with a 3-over-par 75 (39-36). His three-day total of 220 left him in a six-way tie for 46th place honors. That netted the Sunnyside golfer a pay day of $540.
The tourney winner proved to be Brian Thornton of the Meridian Valley Country Club. Thornton had rounds of 70-68-66. The first-place paycheck totaled $6,000.
One shot back in second place, with a payout of $4,000, was Bend Golf & Country Club professional Brandon Kearney (68-66-71).
Also cashing were former Black Rock Creek head club pro Jeff Bender, Sunnyside High School graduate Adam Syverson and former Sunnyside High School Golf Coach Keith Crimp.
Bender, representing Golf Universe in the Tri-Cities, tied for sixth in the professional division with rounds of 71-66-72. His pay day totaled $2,450.
Syverson, the PGA club pro at Spokane's Indian Canyon Golf Course, tied for 26th place honors with rounds of 73-70-74. He won $880 for his efforts.
