Diener fires 76 at senior golf tour event in Richland

RICHLAND - Grandview's Tom Diener paced the Black Rock Creek team at last Wednesday's Columbia Basin Senior Golf Tour event, hosted by Richland's Columbia Point Golf Course.
Diener carded the low round from among the 29 members of the Sunnyside Black Rock Creek team that ventured to Columbia Point. He fired a 76.
Teammate Terry Matthews hit the clubhouse with the second low score by a Black Rock Creek golfer, five shots back of Diener with an 81. Grandview's Akira Nozaka was two shots back of Matthews with an 83.
Black Rock Creek's low net round of the day (actual score minus handicap) belonged to Mike Stegeman. He carded a handicap-aided 64, which gave him second low net of field honors. Black Rock Creek teammates Troy Monholland, Cliff James and Perry Barnhill all shot handicap-aided 69's. Also under their scoring averages were Black Rock Creek's Scott Andrews and Dennis Petrea, each of whom netted a handicap-aided 70.
The senior tour competition continues in two weeks, with a scheduled match at Moses Lake Golf & Country Club. The last day for Black Rock Creek golfers to sign up to play is Sunday, July 16.
The Black Rock Creek team is currently in the No. 2 spot in the senior tour standings with 51 points, five back of the leading Walla Walla Veterans Golf Course squad. Teams from nine different golf courses in the Central Washington area compete on this year's senior tour.
