WILBUR NEWELL BOYD

PAID OBITUARY
WILBUR NEWELL BOYD

Wilbur “Bill” Newell Boyd, 90, of Spokane and a former Sunnyside resident passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane.

Wilbur received his education in Oklahoma.  In 1938 he married his high school sweetheart, Alvadeen Perkins in Kingfisher, Okla. They moved to Bremerton 1942, where he worked in the shipyard during WWII. In 1949 after the war, they moved to Sunnyside, where Wilbur was the chief engineer at the Carnation Plant. For 10 years, Wilbur was construction engineer for Carnation plants on the West Coast until retiring 1982. Following retirement, the Boyds moved to Yuma, Ariz. His wife, Alvadeen, passed away in December of 2004, and for the past year Wilbur had made his home in Spokane to be close to his daughter.

Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing and inventing. Wilbur invented a machine for the Carnation Company that automatically put the caps on the whipped cream cans.

Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Judy Guhlke and husband, Richard, of Spokane; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alvadeen Boyd; two sons, Michael and William Boyd; and three brothers. Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, July 6, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
