| VICTOR HOWARD LYON |
|---|
Mickey Lyon went home to join his Lord and Savior Friday, June 20, 2008 at the age of 86 years. He was born Nov. 21, 1921 in Prosser, the only child of Richard Victor and Gertrude Alice Isherwood Lyon. He grew up and received his education in Sunnyside. During his high school years, he fell in love with the vivacious and talented Georgiabelle Partch. They were married March 29, 1942. Upon completion of his training at Perry Trade School in Yakima, the young couple moved to Tacoma, where Mickey worked in the shipyards. After just a few months of building warships, he joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific as a member of the construction battalions during World War II. Returning to Sunnyside after the war, Mickey joined his dad in the trucking business, beginning his 40 year career as a professional truck driver. After working first for his dad, then owning his own truck, he drove petroleum tankers for Herrett Trucking, General Transport, and lastly, for Mobil Oil Corporation. During these years, Mickey and Georgiabelle welcomed four children into their home, three sons and a daughter. Dick, Preston, Connie and Ed were blessed to have devout Christian parents who taught them to follow and serve the Lord by their own example. Mickey's hard work and unconditional love brought stability to his family, and instilled in them the deep and enduring values that were so much a part of his own God-given character. His love of tennis started with his participation on the tennis team during his high school years. Picking up the sport again in later years, he was a member of a team that competed in the Volvo Senior's League. This team competed in regional tournaments throughout the Northwest for several years, and reached the national tournament in Tucson, Ariz. in 1992, when Mickey was 71 years of age. Possessed with a true servant's heart, Mickey was a faithful member of Grace Brethren Church in Sunnyside for many years until he and Georgia moved to Renton, where he completed his work career and had many friends. He was always looking after others, particularly in the various retirement communities where they lived. He could always be counted on to take friends to doctor's appointments, and they knew that he would be checking in to see how they were doing. Even with his own physical struggles, his focus and prayers would be on his family and those around him. As his wife's health began to deteriorate, Mickey's steadfastness and sacrificial love for her enabled him to be her tender caregiver until she went to be with the Lord in 2003. Their life journey together had lasted for over 61 years. After a period of being alone, the Lord brought into his life a lovely Christian woman, Vivian Brown, who became his second wife. They shared two happy years together before she passed away suddenly in 2007. His trust and faith in the Lord sustained him throughout his long life. He is survived by four children and their spouses, Dick (Judy) Lyon of Yakima, Preston (Donna) Lyon of Renton, Connie (Stan) Davis of Sunnyside and Ed (Judy) Lyon of Kennewick; two step-children and their spouses, Bob (Paulette) Brown of Yakima and Judy (Bill) Sears of South Bend; five grandchildren, Sara (Michael) Beauchamp of San Jose, Calif., David (Andrea) Lyon of Renton, Rick (Amy) Lyon of Yakima, Kim (Mitch) Smith of Kent and Christopher (Gina) Lyon of Kennewick; six great-grandchildren, Natalia, Nathan, Hannah, Aidan, Kyle and Cooper; a large extended family and many dear friends. He leaves a legacy of Godliness and strength for generations to come. Prov. 20:6-7 "Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man? The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him." His parents, an infant granddaughter, Laura Jean Davis; and his beloved grandson, Byron Lyon, also preceded Mickey in death. Mickey's family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dad's many friends at Living Care Community in Yakima, to his compassionate care-givers at Good Samaritan Health Care Center and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospice and to the chaplains and pastors who have been his friends and encouragers. Viewing for Mickey Lyon will be Friday, June 27, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Outlook Cemetery. A memorial service honoring Dad will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 10 a.m. at West Side Baptist Church in Yakima. Memorials may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc., 1821 University Ave. W, Suite S256, St. Paul, MN 55104 or through the web at www.myasthenia.org.
