DOROTHY V. MEZA
September 28, 2012
Our beloved mother Dorothy V. Meza, 75, went to our heavenly Father on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, in Yakima, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born Nov. 27, 1936 in Big Springs, Texas, the daughter of Leonardo and Francisca (Martinez) Valdez.
When Dorothy was five years old she came with her parents and eight siblings to Mabton. She received her early education in Mabton. In 1952 she met the father of her children, Francisco Andaverde.
In 1980 she married Salvador Meza in Moxee, and later returned to Sunnyside, where they made their home until the time of her death.
Our mother had a loving and caring heart, she always had a precious hug for all of us.
Dorothy loved working in her garden and was a wonderful homemaker. Dorothy looked forward to Sunday gatherings with her children and grandchildren. Her home was always filled with song and laughter. There was never a dull moment when the family got together. Although she has left us, she has blessed our family with many years of joy and we will greatly miss her.
Special thanks to the staff at Parkside Nursing Home in Union Gap, and the staff at Memorial Hospital for the amazing care of our mother. We would also like to thank Augustin Olvera and Alison Valdez for all their loving attention during Dorothy's time of need.
She is survived by her 10 children, San Juanita Andaverde, Delia Andaverde, Isabel Contreras and Graciela Gronillo, all of Yakima, Dolores Andaverde of Naches, Francisco Andaverde of Spokane, Gabriel Andaverde, Amanda Rodriguez, Ismael Andaverde and Dora Esparza, all of Sunnyside; and numerous grand children and great-grandchildren; two sisters; Ernestina Castellanos of Sunnyside and Feliciana Tijerina of Pasco; one brother, Luis Valdez of Yakima; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two daughters, Sofia and Rosario Andaverde; three sisters, Jacinta Orteaga, Julia Alanis and Cruz Hernandez; and two brothers, Robert and Jesus Valdez.
Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside.
