After the passing of her daughter in 1969 and then the passing of her husband in 1978, Ava began working at local canneries and warehouses.
She also enjoyed working with the children at the Mother Goose Daycare. After retirement she began volunteering at the Sunnyside Museum, Planned Parenthood and the elementary school.
In later years, she remained active by making quilts that she donated to local nursing homes.
Ava was known for always having her door open and a warm cup of coffee waiting to greet anyone who came to visit.
She enjoyed spending time with friends, going to the 4-H
fun fair and playing bingo.
