Off the RecordMaking way for strip clubs not a wise decision by Wapato CouncilNovember 23, 2012 Psst.... Hey! Yeah you, I saw your sister naked. This past Monday the Wapato City Council passed an ordinance allowing strip clubs in its city. In one word: disgusting. I honestly have no moral qualms with this kind of work, but I do not think it has a place in the Yakima Valley. The problem in the Lower Yakima Valley is the girls who may end up working at these clubs will probably be your neighbor, friend's daughter or someone you went to high school with. Besides the fact that I do not want the people I know "shaking what their momma gave them," it's more of a safety issue in my eyes. Because we live in such a small, tight-knit community, chances are we will know these girls. If we know them...we probably know where they live, too. What is that to say about the creepers who frequent these kinds of clubs? Having that type of business in the Lower Valley breaks the anonymity of the type of work they do and opens them up to dangers unknown. I do, however, appreciate that the city did require in its ordinance that such a club must be at least 500 feet away from schools, parks and churches. But, 500 feet isn't far enough in my opinion. In addition to that, it's time the city of Wapato reprioritizes itself. Allowing strip clubs in its city seems like a sell-out option to bringing revenue into a suffering community. Bad form Wapato, bad form. 1 Amber Schlenker 11/23/2012 2:46 PM |
