OBITUARYMARIA ELENA TREVINO VILLANUEVANovember 28, 2012 Maria Elena Trevino Villanueva, 77, a longtime Granger resident, passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, at Yakima Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1935 in Charco City, Texas, the daughter of Matilda (Salinas) and Jesus Trevino. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Maria worked as a Spanish-language interpreter for the Yakima and Lower Valley courts for 20 years. She is survived by her children, Jesse Mapelli, Cecelia Castro, Mary Irene Villanueva, Rick Villanueva, Rose Marie Senn, David Villanueva, Lela Bowman, Angela Trevino, Amalia Sanchez; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carlos Trevino and Robert Trevino; two sisters, Dora Salinas and Yolle Guizar; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Maltida Trevino; and one daughter, Matilda (Midge) Villanueva Alonzo. Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, from 1 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, with burial to follow at Zillah Cemetery.
