OBITUARYPENNY L. WIESDecember 05, 2012 Penny L. Wies, 69, of Sunnyside passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, surrounded by the men of her life, Gary and Jacob. Penny was born May 25, 1943 in Seattle to Don and Marie (Hogens) Holke. Penny was a hard worker her entire life, she worked in the K-2 Factory on Vashon Island from 1961 to 1969, she and her mother were the only two women who worked at the factory during that time. In March of 1971 Penny married Gary Wies, and the couple made their home in Grandview. Penny would rise early every morning at 4:15 a.m., be it summer or winter to haul water down the hill to the eight to 10 calves that she raised. She finally talked Gary into putting in a water line. Penny worked at Libby's, H & H Eggs, managed the Harrison Heights Apartments and in the cafeteria at Sunnyside Community Hospital for 13 years until she retired in 2004. In retirement, Penny still continued to work mornings at Safeway and afternoons at Lava Rock Nursery. Penny retired from those jobs in 2011 due to health issues. Penny's greatest joys in life, were her flowers and her animals. Penny is survived by her loving husband, Gary; children, Doug and Tom; grandson, Jacob; and three step-children, Michelle, Sadie and Annie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Marie Holke; and step-son, Eugene. At Penny's request there will be no memorial services.
