Sunnyside man sustains injuries in two-vehicle accident
December 06, 2012
Michael T. Adams, 49, of Sunnyside sustained injuries yesterday afternoon as a result of a two-vehicle collision that occurred about three miles west of Sunnyside on Yakima Valley Highway.
Wednesday's mishap happened at about 2:50 p.m. Adams was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital to receive medical attention.
Washington State Patrol officials said Adams was eastbound on Yakima Valley Highway in a 1993 Jeep Cherokee, near the West Outlook Road intersection, when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck the rear tire of a westbound semi-truck. The 2013 Peterbilt semi and trailer was being driven by 45-year-old Ismael F. Guizar of Sunnyside, who escaped any serious injury.
WSP troopers believe Adams fell asleep at the wheel, which caused his Jeep Cherokee to cross the center line and hit the oncoming semi. The Jeep was totaled.
Guizar was able to drive the semi and trailer from the scene of the wreck, say troopers, although there was some damage to the rig.
The WSP reported that neither alcohol or drugs are believed to have played a part in causing the accident.
