City employee steps away quietly

City of Sunnyside Administrative Assistant Pam Sandifer retired recently after nearly 15 years with the city.

Interim City Manager Frank Sweet said the retirement was sudden, but not a surprise.

"She came into the office and said 'I want to retire' and I asked, 'when?' and she said 'last week,'" Sweet said. "We worked with her to figure out how to accommodate her wishes."

Sweet said the city will not fill the position and will instead realign other jobs to cover the work Sandifer did.

"She was part-time in the building department and part-time in public works," said Sweet.

He said the staff recently filled in for her when her husband passed away and would carry on.
