Port's books clean, say state auditors
January 04, 2013
The Port of Sunnyside has once again received a clean accountability audit from the Washington State Auditor's Office, with no findings or assertions.
This continues a string of positive audits since the port's inception, according to the auditor's office.
The accountability audit determines if the port has adequate internal controls in place to protect public assets and also if the port is complying with state laws and regulations along with its own policies. This report contained information on the port from Jan. 1, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2011.
The audit report said the port is in compliance and also notes that the port actively communicates with the auditor's office throughout the year and is responsive to suggestions and guidance.
"Even with employee turnover we continue to have no findings," said Carol Carter, port finance director. "Our commissioners set the bar high."
