Legion provides tips for flying the U.S. flag in February

January 29, 2013

As part of their Americanism initiative, Grandview's Fred E. Hayes Post 57 of the American Legion would like to remind the public of days the United States flag should be flown during the month of February.

Flying the American flag is allowed on any and every day of the year, however, certain holidays and special occasions are recommended for displaying the colors. While the flag is associated with patriotic days in the mind of the public, any holiday important to the country can be honored by flying the flag.

The suggested dates in February are Four Chaplains Sunday (Feb. 3), Religious Emphasis Week (Feb. 3-9), Scouting Birthday (Feb. 8) and President's Day (Feb. 18).

The post also would like to remind the public that the flag should only be flown at half-staff when ordered by the President or Governor.
