OBITUARYDANIEL R. SALINASFebruary 01, 2013 Daniel R. Salinas, 80, of Sunnyside passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. Daniel was born July 21, 1932 in Weslaco, Texas to German and Romana (Reyes) Salinas. He received his early education in Texas. In 1950 he married Olivia Olivarez in Yakima. Daniel worked at Twin City Foods and retired after 27 years of service. He was a big Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners fan. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies and took great pride in his black Camaro. Daniel also enjoyed being outdoors and cherished the time he could spend with his family and friends. Daniel was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview. Daniel is survived by his wife, Olivia Salinas of Sunnyside; his children, Virginia Rickertsen of Richland, Sylvia Chavez of Pasco, Anna Salinas of Benton City, Elva (Max) Saldana of Sunnyside and Lillie (Lupe) Bazaan, both of Sunnyside, Daniel (Irene) Salinas of Seattle and Joe (Nellie) Salinas, both of Seattle and Fernando Salinas of Portland, Ore.; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sisters, Maria Molina and Rita Esquierdo; and his brothers, Jesse, Jason and Jimmy Salinas. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; and one son-in-law. Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
