GONZALO R. OVALLE

Gonzalo R. Ovalle, 82, of Sunnyside passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Yakima.

Gonzalo was born Jan. 1, 1931 in Progresso Coahuila, Mexico, the son of Francisco and Ricarda (Rodriguez) Ovalle. He attended school in Mexico.

On Sept. 23, 1960 he married Rosa Elena Rios in Sunnyside.

Gonzalo worked as a farm laborer for various farms in the valley, including McIntyre and Woodworth Farms.

He enjoyed raising farm animals, especially chickens, ducks, goats, pigs and cows. Gonzalo also loved tending to his garden. He cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren.

He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside.

Gonzalo is survived by his wife, Rosa Elena Ovalle of Sunnyside; five children, Silvia Ann Ovalle of Yakima, Sammuel (Vae) Ovalle of Seattle, Silda Ann Preciado of Union Gap, Rosa Maria Ovalle and Frances Ovalle, both of Sunnyside; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Ricarda; and one son, Serigo Ovalle.

Viewing and visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside.
