The Sunnyside High School boys freshman basketball team gained some more momentum as the Grizzlies prepare for what should be a good game coming out of the holiday break.
Sunnyside's freshmen trounced Connell this past Saturday, 54-23.
With the victory, the Grizzly freshmen moved to 5-0 on the season as they prepare for a date with Grandview freshmen Coach Zane Wells and his troops Jan. 3. Over the past several years, Wells has coached a couple of unbeaten freshman teams for the Greyhounds.
"The real season starts when we play Grandview," said Sunnyside freshmen Coach Eric Lindstrand.
Lindstrand said in this past Saturday's game, the Grizzlies ran a few different presses against Connell, which couldn't handle the pressure. Sunnyside created a number of turnovers off its press for three quarters. Sunnyside had 23 steals as a team.
Lindstrand said he was impressed with the Grizzlies' play on Saturday.
"We are starting to pass the ball better," said Lindstrand.
Elias Cerda had an all-around solid game for the Grizzlies with 13 points, seven steals and five assists. Teammate James Baysinger dropped in 13 points as well, adding five assists and five steals.
Hunter Van de Graaf finished with seven boards and three blocks.
