The Sunnyside Christian High School JV girls fastpitch softball team swept a doubleheader from Prosser's freshman squad Monday afternoon.
The JV Lady Knights, despite coming through with just five hits on the day, prevailed by 9-8 and 11-1 scores.
In SCHS's 9-8 victory in the opening game, the Lady Knights got a pair of singles from Tori Van Wingerden and Erica Smasne in the team's four-run fourth inning. The two singles were the only hits the Lady Knights had in the first contest. Sunnyside Christian plated five runs in the fifth inning to rally from behind. The Lady Knights took advantage of three hit batsmen and three Prosser errors that frame.
In yesterday's twin bill finale, the Sunnyside Christian JV scored three runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to a single from Jacqui Roberts. Brittany Den Hoed's grand slam in the second accounted for four of the six runs the Lady Knights scored that inning. SCHS added two runs in the bottom of the third to account for the final 11-1 score. Roberts had an RBI single in the third.
Roberts pitched both games for the Sunnyside Christian JV. She fanned two and walked four in the opener, yielding 10 hits along the way. In the nightcap, Roberts scattered four hits, walked five and struck out two.
The Sunnyside Christian JV (4-0) isn't scheduled to play any more games this season.
