KLICKITAT - Sunnyside Christian's three-game losing streak came to an abrupt end last Friday. The Lady Knights fastpitch softball team blasted the Klickitat Vandals, 9-2 and 21-5.
The two victories boosted Sunnyside Christian's South Central 'B' League record to 8-0. Overall on the season, the Lady Knights are 11-3.
The story of last Friday's doubleheader was the ineffectiveness of the Klickitat catcher. Numerous passed balls and dropped third strikes allowed the Lady Knights to scamper around the bases almost at will.
In Sunnyside Christian's 21-5 victory in the nightcap, the Vandals also committed 10 errors. The Lady Knights' bats also came alive in the twin bill finale, as Klickitat pitcher Kaylee Schultz yielded 14 hits.
SCHS's top guns at the plate in the second game were Emma Hernandez, Tami Lambrecht and Tyssyna Van Wingerden, each of whom banged out three hits. Carly DeGroot added a 2-for-4 effort at the plate.
In the opening 9-2 victory, Sunnyside Christian pushed seven runs across the plate in the top of the fourth. Courtney Rice had a two-run double in the frame, and Lambrecht and Jacqui Roberts each singled in a run.
The Lady Knights' top three hitters in the opening contest were Lambrecht, 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the third; Rice, 2-for-4 with two doubles; and Hernandez, 1-for-2 with an RBI double in the sixth.
Sunnyside Christian is scheduled to host Mabton for two league games tomorrow (Tuesday).
