Shumway men's golf club winner Saturday

Ray Shumway of Prosser was on top of his game Saturday at Sunnyside's Black Rock Creek Golf Course.

Shumway bested the field in a net scoring only division of play. The Prosser linkster, carrying a handicap of 22, shot three strokes below his scoring average. His net 69 (actual score minus handicap) was one stroke better than the runner-up, Keith Ward. Shumway netted $70 worth of pro shop merchandise for his first place efforts.

Ward, with his second place net 70, earned $60 in pro shop credit.

The Saturday, July 31, competition was a Black Rock Creek Men's Golf Association sponsored tourney.

Earning third place honors, worth $50 in pro shop credit, was Gene McIntire with a net 71. The fourth place finisher, with a net 72, was Phil Luther. He earned $40. Tying for fifth place honors with net 74's, worth $30 total, were Bernie Schutt and Rudy Slupsky.

The golfers who opted to advance to Sunday's gross only scoring division of play were exempted from cashing on Saturday. Results from Sunday's competition were not provided before the Daily Sun News' press deadline.
