MABTON - The Salinas family of Mabton still has no word on who stole 13-year-old Angelo Salinas' pick-up truck early Wednesday morning.
According to Tia Salinas, they haven't received any phone calls on the missing 1996 Nissan pick-up she and her husband, David, bought for their son as a project car he would drive when he received his license in three years.
Since the theft of the vehicle from her Pine Street home, Salinas and her family has been searching for the truck, but have been unable to locate it. "We went looking around all over the place," said Salinas.
Salinas said she heard the thieves start the truck and saw them drive away.
Still in the early stages of restoration and customizing, the truck was nothing special, she said.
"It just had a 'plane Jane' stereo in it," she said.
Since the theft, Salinas has been told that other vehicles on her street were the targets of vehicle prowls the same night her son's truck was stolen. She said that one of the neighbor kids told her that someone had been going around popping out ignitions in vehicles parked in the neighborhood, but she hasn't been able to confirm if it is true.
The pick-up is a 1996 charcoal gray Nissan.
"It almost looks black," she said.
The license plate number is A09028H. Anyone with information on the car theft is asked to call the Salinas family, 894-4353 or the Mabton Police Department.
