Grandview woman escapes injury in two-vehicle crash

TOPPENISH - A 38-year-old Grandview woman, driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer, was struck by an oncoming vehicle on State Route-22 last night. Somehow, she avoided injury.

According to the Washington State Patrol, 38-year-old Martha Hernandez of Grandview was eastbound on SR-22 last night at about 9:15 p.m., about five miles east of Toppenish. WSP troopers report that a westbound 1997 Mercury Tracer crossed the center line and struck Hernandez's SUV.

As a result of the collision, the Tracer careened off the south side of the roadway and rolled.

The driver of the Mercury Tracer was Aaron Martinez, 49, of Toppenish. He sustained injuries and was transported to the Toppenish hospital for medical treatment.

Both vehicles involved in the crash had to be towed from the scene. WSP troopers said both Martinez and Hernandez were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
