Mother, two kids struck in hit-and-run

A 15-year-old Sunnyside boy has been charged with hit and run attended and second degree negligent driving. He is charged with hitting a mother and her two small children, one of whom was in a stroller.

Sunnyside Police Capt. Phil Schenck said the suspect was driving his father's 1995 Dodge Ram pickup truck this past Saturday evening when he hit the mother and her children, who were attempting to cross 11th Street at the Lincoln Avenue intersection.

Witnesses were able to give police a description of the truck and its driver, said Schenck. Police officers were able to track down the vehicle and the teen at his home in the 1200 block of S. 11th Street within a couple of hours.

The 33-year-old mother suffered bumps and bruises. She was treated at Sunnyside Community Hospital and released. Her five-year-old child also was not seriously injured, only suffering bumps and scraps. Her year-old infant was uninjured.
