Yakima County commissioners recently approved interlocal agreements with the cities of Sunnyside and Grandview, as well as the towns of Granger and Mabton.
The agreements deal with the criminal justice system and the cost of dealing with adult misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenders.
According to the agreements, the cities involved are required to pay the county for the use of their services, including electronic home detention, work crews, restitution charges and pre-trial services.
The agreements each state that the communities involved will use Yakima County as the sole source for these correctional services.
If a city involved in the agreement wants to utilize the county to house an inmate the cost to that city is $52.23 day. The charge will include both the feeding and housing of an inmate. If the county decides to place one of the city inmates in the county's work detention program, the cost to the city is $40.50 a day.
According to the agreement, if the city asks the county to provide home detention and electronic monitoring and reporting services for an inmate, the fee is $4.31 a day.
The agreement states that cities will pay the county a daily rate for inmates who are part of the pre-trial supervision program. The cost of the program is $4.38 a day.
