Pirates too much for Sunnyside girls

YAKIMA - Two days after knocking off West Valley for its first victory of the season, the Sunnyside High School girls bowling team got served a slice of humble pie.

Competing against Davis at Yakima's Minda Lanes Thursday afternoon, the Lady Grizzly bowlers were swept, 4-0. The Pirates delivered a knockout blow in the opening game, winning by an 881-630 score. Sunnyside picked up the pace in the second contest, increasing its team total to 683. But Davis countered with a 734 to notch another win.

In the two Baker games, the Pirates were victorious by 176-133 and 146-119 scores. The Baker format calls for each member of the five-girl squad to alternate taking shots throughout the 10 frames.

Pacing the Pirates to the overwhelming victory were Katie Balam and Lynda Beehler. Balam had the top two-game series of the day, a 365 on efforts of 190-175. Beehler shot a 363 on games of 224-139.

Sunnyside's top performer yesterday was senior Desiree Pritchett. She opened with a 129 and tossed a 167 in the second contest. Junior Megan Saunders was second high for the Lady Grizzlies on games of 128-139. Rounding out the Sunnyside team scoring were sophomore Veronica Uribe (145-118), junior Katie Weets (103-149) and senior Cora Rodriguez (125-110).

The Lady Grizzlies' next scheduled match is at Eastmont Lanes against Wenatchee on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
