One injured in motor vehicle accident

PROSSER - Grandview resident Keri C. Leidig, 36, was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital Friday night just after 8 p.m., following a motor vehicle accident on I-82 near milepost 79.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Gary Miller, Leidig was attempting to pass a 1999 semi truck driven by Jon S. Nelson, 52, of Tacoma when she lost control of the vehicle, hit the guardrail and then the semi truck.

Leidig, who was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup that sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Her vehicle was towed from the scene. Leidig was treated at Sunnyside Community Hospital and released.

Nelson's semi truck sustained an estimated $2,500 in damages and was driven from the scene.

According to Miller, the cause of the accident was Leidig speeding too fast for the conditions.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
