Evans' estate to receive full financial account

In a brief special meeting held last week, the Board of Trustees for the Volunteer Firefighters' and Reserve Police Officers' Relief and Compensation Fund approved paying out the full amount in the pension account of volunteer firefighter Steve Evans, who died recently while on a hunting trip.

The Evans' estate requested that the entire amount of $2,479.54 be paid in one lump sum rather than monthly over a period of time, according to Sunnyside Mayor Ed Prilucik.

Evans, a Sunnyside Police Department sergeant, was a volunteer firefighter for the past 17 years.

According to City Attorney Mark Kunkler, the board had to approve paying the Evans family in one lump sum before the mayor could sign the paperwork.

Volunteer firefighters and police reserves are entitled to a pension for their service to the community, said Kunkler.

The petition was unanimously approved.
