Grandview loses two over the weekend

GRANDVIEW - Saturday night the Lady Greyhounds started off strong against Hanford, but it wasn't enough to leave the 'Hounds with a win over the Falcons. Instead, Grandview fell to the visiting team, losing by a score of 54-44.

"We looked really good," Coach Adolfo Hinojosa said of his team. "We competed up to three and half quarters, then Hanford made a 9 point run."

Hinojosa said his team just couldn't sink a shot during the last three minutes of the match-up.

According to Hinojosa, the Lady 'Hounds were able to keep pace with the Falcons, even going into halftime with a three-point lead over Hanford. Even at the end of the third quarter Grandview was only trailing by one point.

Hinojosa said the second half of the game was exciting, noting that the score went back and forth with nearly every possession of the ball.

"We were up by one, they were up by one," Hinojosa said.

Overall, the coach said he feels his team did well against the Falcons.

"They were really calm," he said. "It's a learning experience for them. They need to learn how to play in a close game."

Helping Grandview stay close to Hanford was the team's three post players, Erica Solis, Ashley Luper and Mari Cornejo. He noted that all three girls were busy blocking out and rebounding for Grandview.

Leading scorers for the 'Hounds were Jessica Rodriquez, who sunk 14 points for Grandview, followed by Cornejo with 9 points and Wysong with 7 points.

The loss to Hanford came just one night after a tough match-up against rival Sunnyside. The Lady 'Hounds lost to Sunnyside by a score of 67-48.

Hinojosa said his team played well against Sunnyside with their post players again making a difference.

"Overall, I'm pretty happy with how they played," Hinojosa said of his team.

Helping the 'Hounds take on the Grizzlies was sophomore Danika Martinez, who scored 6 points for Grandview.

"She put a little spark into our game and gave 110 percent on the court," Hinojosa said of Martinez.

Leading scorers for the Lady 'Hounds were J. Rodriguez with 15 points and Cornejo with 10 points.

The Lady 'Hounds will take to the court again tonight (Monday) against Prosser.

Hinojosa said his team will be working to slow down the Mustangs offense and put a little defensive pressure on them.

"They're pretty quick and pretty athletic all the way around," Hinojosa said of Prosser.
