About 70 Sunnyside area residents will be going to jail on Tuesday. But don't worry, these jailbirds are going behind bars for a good reason.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will be holding a fund-raiser Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at El Valle Restaurant.
Money raised from the event will go to benefit local families who are aided by MDA, said MDA representative Melissa Pederson, who will serve as warden for the fund-raiser.
Tuesday's MDA fund-raiser is being organized by officials out of its office in Spokane. Pederson said the MDA Spokane office serves people with Muscular Dystrophy in all of Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho and Southeastern Oregon.
"We support all of the local families," said Pederson.
Pederson said her office holds about 12 of the jail-and-bail fund-raisers throughout the year around the region. All of the money raised from the different fund-raisers stays in the local communities where the event took place, she added.
"We have a lot of great people who come out and help," said Pederson.
Pederson said Tuesday's event in Sunnyside should be a lot of fun.
"We have a lot of great jailbirds coming out to help," said Pederson.
Don't be surprised to see officials from the Sunnyside Fire Department driving around town, hauling people off to El Valle. Pederson said the local fire department will be assisting with the fund-raiser. Once at El Valle, the jailbirds will have their mug shots taken before being led to their cell. The jailbirds will have drinks and other snacks available while they call trying to raise bail. Pederson said the jail and bail fund-raisers are a lot of fun.
