Morris was born Sept. 24, 1918 in Hedel, The Netherlands, the son of Woutera M. (Ottevanger) and Herbert Bogert. Morris had made his home and farmed almost 80 years in the Yakima Valley. We lovingly called him “Grandpa Farmer.”

Morris Bogert and Lois Bos were married in Sunnyside on Feb. 28, 1940. Three daughters and two sons were born to them.

Surviving children are three daughters, Jerri (Jim) Honeyford, Marilynn (Ken) VerSteeg, and Janice (Joe) Albrecht; one son, Jim (Kathy) Bogert; 16 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Henry of Sunnyside and Walt of Kennewick; and two sisters, Marie Duim of Sunnyside and Jeanette Mitzel of Randle.

After the death of Lois, in February 1992, Morris loved going to the coffee shops, often going to the Outpost in the mornings and Marie’s in the afternoons. He had many friends and greatly enjoyed visiting with them. One of the longest friendships was with an eighth grade classmate from Outlook School, Art Price. He also loved to sit in his lawn chair and watch the world whiz by on I-82.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; their infant son, Gerald; one brother, Pete Bogert; and one sister, Wilma Mitzel.

Morris was a life-time member of the Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church.
