MABTON - The Mabton Lady Vikings were defeated 50-28 by Liberty Christian last night in a non-league make-up game. The game was rescheduled after being postponed due to snowy weather conditions.
"Liberty Christian is a pretty good team," said Mabton Coach Brett Simpson. "We weren't able to hang onto the basketball last night."
He said he feels his team's defense was good against the Lady Patriots.
"With so many turnovers we played defense the majority of the game," said Simpson.
One of Liberty Christian's advantages was height, said Simpson. The Patriots were playing a 3/4 court trap that was difficult for the Mabton girls to overcome.
"They got a lot of offensive rebounds and they were able to out rebound us," he said.
High scorer for Mabton in the game was Patty Mendoza, who scored 8 points for her team. Alida Mendoza, Betsy Fisher, Diana Lopez and Michelle Tellez each netted 4 points for Mabton. Gloria Vijil and Adriana Cardenas each scored 2 points in the game.
The Lady Vikes (6-4, 7-10) take to the court again Friday night against LaSalle for the last home game of the season. They will be playing Saturday night against Yakama Tribal in Toppenish. Tuesday, Feb. 10, Mabton will play its last game of the regular season against Sunnyside Christian. All games start at 6 p.m.
