Collision injures two Lower Valley men

A two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon near Sunnyside injured both a Granger man and a Prosser man.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Abel Mendoza-Flores, 33, of Granger ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Washout and Independence roads. Mendoza-Flores, driving a 1988 Pontiac Sunbird, was southbound on Washout Road.

An eastbound 1998 Ford Explorer on Independence Road, driven by Vaughn V. Nehls, 41, of Prosser, struck the Sunbird in the intersection. Both vehicles were totaled.

WSP troopers report both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, which occurred Tuesday at about 4:15 p.m. Both men sustained injuries.
