Soccer tryouts scheduled in Benton City

BENTON CITY - The boys U-14 soccer team, LV United, is holding its annual tryouts Feb. 14-16 at the Benton City Middle School soccer field. Tryouts will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The registration form and fee are both due at tryouts.

Jr. Indelook Club meeting planned for Feb. 11

The Jr. Indelook Club will meet at the home of Dona Dorsey Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.

Co-hostess for the meeting will be Dorothy Cullen. The program for the evening is titled "Self Protection," and will be presented by the police department.

55 Alive safe driving class offered this month

Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 17 and 19, AARP instructor Gil Brook will be offering the 55 Alive Safe Driving course to anyone age 55 or older at the Sunnyside Senior Center, 1400 Federal Way in Sunnyside.

The course, scheduled to take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. both days, teaches the effects age, hearing loss, physical change and medication can have on a person's driving skills and reaction times.

Participants must attend both days to receive the course certificate. The cost of the course is $10, and is payable to AARP on the first day of the class. For more information and to register for the class call the Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Department at 837-8660.

Downtown trees to be pruned

Downtown businesses are asked to take decorations, Christmas lights and extension cords out of all downtown trees by Tuesday, Feb. 10, in order for the trees to be pruned.

The Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Department is having the trees pruned beginning Wednesday, Feb. 11. For more information call the parks and recreation department at 837-8660.

Clean Air Authority to meet Feb. 11

YAKIMA - The Yakima Regional Clean Air Authority will meet Wednesday, Feb. 11, in room B33 of the Yakima County Courthouse.

The Authority will conduct its work session beginning at 1 p.m., before moving into its board meeting at 2 p.m.

Agenda items include an appeal from Larry Kraft of Cascade Quality Molding, the release of a preliminary draft of the particulate matter limited maintenance plan, discussion of the beginning salary range for employees of the Yakima Regional Clean Air Authority, and discussion of the dust control annual plan.

Three more animals test negative for BSE

Samples taken from three animals culled from a second Mabton dairy facility have tested negative for BSE, according to information from the United States Department of Agriculture.

To date there have been 255 samples taken, with tests from each sample coming back negative. The samples have been from the Mabton index herd, as well as herds in Mattawa, Connell, Boardman, Quincy, Tenino, Moxee, Othello and Burley.
