County park facility fees go up

It will now cost a little more money to rent a facility at local Yakima County parks, thanks to a resolution passed by Yakima County commissioners last week.

The increase in park fees came after commissioners held public hearings on the proposed changes. The hearings took place in December 2003 and January 2004.

The approved changes include an increase in the rental fee for various buildings at the Youth Activities Park in Union Gap, as well as changes in the cost of parking and renting picnic areas in Eschbach Park and West Valley Community Park. The cost of renting the activities building at the Youth Activities Park increased from $600 for two hours to $725, which includes the use of the facility's kitchen. Another increase deals with the rental of the youth barn at the same park, which was $450 for a two hour rental. The cost to rent this building is now $550.

Fees adopted by the commissioners affecting both the Youth Activities Park and Eschbach Park include the cost of renting group picnic areas. Reserving a picnic area now ranges from $10 for a party of 50 people to $40 for a party of 200 people. Reserving a picnic shelter with a 200-person capacity at the Youth Activities Park is now $80. It will be $50 to reserve two picnic shelters with the same capacity at Eschbach Park, and $60 to reserve a picnic shelter with a capacity of 100 people at West Valley Community Park.

Commissioners also set a parking fee at Eschbach Park. The cost of parking is $3 for all vehicles.
