Pioneer recruiting assistant principal

More than 25 applicants are seeking the assistant principal position now open at Sunnyside's Pioneer Elementary School.

According to Dr. Rick Cole, superintendent of Sunnyside Schools, four of those applicants are from within the district.

The position is currently held by Kris Diddens, who steps up to principal at the K-4 grade school this fall, upon the retirement of long-time administrator Stan Davis, said Cole.

Cole said the district will begin screening the applicants this week.

"We have a lot of good applicants from which to choose," he said.

Cole predicted that candidates will be called for job interviews beginning this week, with an announcement of Diddens' replacement to be made as early as the February Sunnyside School Board meeting.

"Or at the least by the March meeting," Cole said.
