Safeway store helping out Lions' vision cause

The Sunnyside Safeway store is helping the Sunnyside Lions Club raise awareness of the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing during the month of February.

The local store, along with stores throughout the state, northern Idaho, Alaska and Montana selected the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing as its charity of choice, said Melba Fujiura of the Sunnyside Lions Club.

She encourages local shoppers to support the foundation by donating their spare change in the donation cans located at the store's check-out stands.

"Your participation in this partnership between Safeway and the Foundation will help many others to see and hear a better future," she said.

The Sunnyside Lions annually host White Cane Days in May to raise money for the Seattle-based foundation, which specializes in vision and hearing health and research.
