Child birth class on tap in Prosser

PROSSER - Prosser Memorial Hospital will offer a four-week child birth education class beginning Monday, March 1.

Classes will be held in the hospital's Whitehead conference room on March 1, 8, 15 and 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in English and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Spanish. The classes are designed to inform and prepare expectant parents.

Hospital officials say the best time to register for the class is during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. Registration forms can be obtained by calling (509) 788-6034.

Author to speak

to Christian women March 15

PROSSER - Author and conference speaker Jan Mathers will be the guest speaker at the Monday, March 15, meeting of the Lower Valley Christian Women's Club. Mathers' topic will be "Adventure in the Ordinary."

The musical interlude at the March 15 meeting will be provided by vocalist Bev Grow.

The 11:30 a.m. luncheon meeting will be held at Prosser's Barn Restaurant. Reservations can be phoned in by calling 894-4610 or 882-2365.

Blood drawing

set for March 2

The American Red Cross will stage a blood drawing at Sunnyside's United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 2.

According to the chairman of the drawing, Marie Handy, Girl Scouts Troop 391 will serve as the sponsor of the 1 to 6 p.m. event.

Handy said those who want to reserve times to donate blood can call 1-800-787-9691. Handy added that anyone 17 years of age and older who weigh at least 105 lbs. and are in good general health are eligible to donate blood.

Egg design class to be held locally

The Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Department is again offering its popular Ukrainian egg design class.

The eggs are decorated by waxing and dying eggs—in the Ukrainian style that has come to be known as an art form.

The class will be held Tuesday and Thursday, March 23 and 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sunnyside Senior Center. Marra-Lynn Rodriguez will serve as instructor. The class fee is set at $25 for city residents and $32 for all others. The fee includes all the costs of all supplies needed to decorate two eggs.

Class size is limited to 12 participants. Sign-ups are ongoing at the local parks and rec office.

Deadline extended to nominate local award winners

The Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce has extended the deadline to Thursday, Feb. 26, to nominate a person for its annual awards program.
