Frank Espinoza lit up the scoreboard for 21 points this past Saturday, leading the Sunnyside High School 'C' squad boys basketball team to a 56-52 victory over Grandview.
Also over Christmas break, the 'C' squad Grizzlies defeated Toppenish, 87-33.
In the four-point win over Grandview last Saturday, Anthony Palomarez and Jose Ramos chipped in 12 and 9 points, respectively.
Sunnyside trailed the 'C' squad Greyhounds by 11 heading into the final quarter of play, but the Grizzlies limited Grandview to just six points in the final period while busting loose for 21 points of their own. Palomarez hit two key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
In the Saturday, Dec. 20, game against Toppenish, the 'C' squad Grizzlies blanked the Wildcats 29-0 in the opening quarter enroute to a 48-16 halftime lead. Sunnyside socked the game away in the third quarter with a 22-4 run. Four players hit the double digit mark in the scoring column against Toppenish-Brandon Coleman with 17 points, and Espinoza, Zach Marquez and Mitchell Sanchez with 13 apiece.
