Sunnyside man caught, arrested this morning on burglary charge

A 22-year-old Sunnyside man was arrested early this morning (Thursday) on second degree burglary charges at El Rodeo, located at 1103 Yakima Valley Hwy.

Sunnyside police officers responded to a call at 1:40 a.m. of an unoccupied and suspicious vehicle parked behind Bieber Bros. Fashion Floors, according to officer Oliver Hernandez.

While investigating, officers spotted a single pair of lug shoe prints in the snow behind the building. The footprints led to a fenced area. Once inside the fenced area, officers spotted someone on the roof of a building adjacent to Bieber Bros.

Although he attempted to escape, officers quickly placed the suspect under arrest.

The suspect allegedly opened a rooftop vent, according to police. On the roof officers located burglary tools and empty garbage bags, which officers believe were going to be used for the removal of merchandise from El Rodeo, which is a western wear store.

The suspect has been initially charged with second degree burglary and has been sent to Yakima County jail, where he awaits arraignment.
