TROUT LAKE - The Bickleton High School boys basketball team had a tough time of it this past Saturday night, losing to Trout Lake High School, 64-26.
The Pirates just couldn't stop the Mustangs fastbreak, said Bickleton boys Coach Ben McBride.
"It was a tough game for us," he said.
The Pirates fell behind in the first quarter 17-2, but made up for the slow start by outscoring the Mustangs in the second quarter 12-11, McBride said.
The Pirates were just too far behind. The second half saw the Mustangs jumping out with 20 points to the Pirates' 5 points. The Mustangs kept up their charge, adding 16 more points in the final quarter to the Pirates' single digit 7.
Junior Bryan Whitmore had six points on the night and nine rebounds, while senior Karl Jensen with 9 points, to be the team's top point-getter for the evening.
"They just surged ahead of us," McBride said.
"We just couldn't hit the bucket, let alone the rim," he said.
McBride is hoping his team, with its 0-4, 1-5 record, will have better luck against Yakama Tribal tomorrow night.
"We have another tough game on Friday when we face LaSalle," he said.
