Sunnyside man faces break-in charges

22-year-old John M. Valero was arraigned Tuesday, Jan. 13, on attempted burglary charges. Valero was arrested by Sunnyside Police Department officers when they found him on the roof of El Rodeo, which is located at 1103 Yakima Valley Highway.

Police responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked behind Bieber Brothers just before 2 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8. Officers followed footprints in the snow behind the building to a gated area. Law enforcement officials believe Valero was attempting to remove a rooftop vent to gain access to the building.

The suspect was taken to Yakima County Jail, where he awaited arraignment. He has been officially charged with second degree attempted burglary and making or having burglary tools.

An additional case has been filed against Valero. He has also been charged with taking a motor vehicle without permission.
