TOPPENISH - It was another dominating display by the Sunnyside Christian High School boys basketball team last night in the Knights' final road game of the regular season.
Sunnyside Christian had its way with Yakama Tribal in a game that was played last night after being postponed from earlier in the season because of the weather.
Building on a 25-5 first quarter lead, Sunnyside Christian went on to trounce the Eagles 90-37.
The Knights received another impressive outing from Chad Den Boer, who put in 31 points, which included seven 3-pointers. It was the second consecutive 30-point game for the Sunnyside Christian sophomore. Den Boer went out of the game with about four minutes left in the third quarter.
Den Boer and Jordan Haak paced the Knights in the first period, scoring 12 and 9 points, respectively.
Sunnyside Christian Coach Dean Wagenaar said on the defensive side of the ball the Knights used a 3-2 match-up zone, which is a variation of a 1-2-2. This gave Den Boer a lot of opportunities to create havoc on the floor, said Wagenaar. Wagenaar said Den Boer was able to step in lanes, steal passes and run with the ball.
Wagenaar said the Knights also benefited because the Eagles didn't have an effective player in the post. This lack of ability inside forced the Tribal team to play from the perimeter.
At the end of the third quarter, Sunnyside Christian was comfortably ahead 66-21, so Wagenaar turned to his bench.
Wagenaar said it was a good, all-around game for his Knights, who shot well, pushed the ball up the court effectively and were solid on the defensive end.
Sunnyside Christian (4-4, 7-9) finishes up its last five games of the season at home. The Knights host Glenwood this Friday and Bickleton on Saturday.
