Sunnyside man shot July 4, released from hospital

Sunnyside resident Jose Acevedo, 17, was treated and released at Sunnyside Community Hospital after he was shot early Sunday morning, July 4. He was treated and kept overnight for observation. He was released early Monday morning.

Acevedo arrived at Sunnyside Community Hospital at 3 a.m. Sunday morning with gunshot wounds to the abdomen, arm and back area, according to Sunnyside Police Chief Ed Radder.

According to Radder, Acevedo was shot two to three times. The exact location Acevedo was at is still under question.

Acevedo told police the shooting occurred on Cemetery Road near TW Market, but investigators have reason to believe he was actually shot closer to Weatherwax Street. Radder said Acevedo later admitted to being shot near 11th Street and North Avenue.

"We're still narrowing it down," said Radder. "We have leads as to who was involved."

Police are still investigating the incident, which is believed to have some gang ties.
