Sunnyside man arrested in Tuesday night murder

Keith Wayne Sherrill, 57, whose reported address is 6241 Van Belle Rd. near Sunnyside, will be arraigned Friday on murder charges connected to the death of his 39-year-old companion, Teresa Lynn Hilton.

Sherrill was arrested Tuesday night following a 911 call to the Yakima County Sheriff's office. and is being held in the Yakima County jail on a $1 million bond.

According to sheriff's office officials, deputies arrived on the scene about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday night to discover a "female not breathing," who had apparently also suffered numerous injuries. The victim, Hilton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The results from an autopsy, which was being conducted this morning (Thursday) at the Yakima Coroner's office, were not available at press time.

In the meantime Yakima County Sheriff detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hilton's death.

The estranged couple were living in a small motor home behind the residence at Van Belle Road for the past month. They apparently had a history of domestic violence, according to Yakima County Sheriff Lt. Stew Graham.

Graham said the couple had reportedly been drinking during the evening with neighbors. Sherrill apparently made the emergency call when he realized Hilton wasn't breathing.

Graham said Sherrill apparently attempted CPR until the arrival of medical personnel. Sherrill was arrested on suspicion of foul play when evidence at the scene didn't match the version of the events given by Sherrill to the deputies.
